The DMCV Sharks hosted a brief Special Purpose Meeting on Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at 7:30pm
Our by-laws require that each year we host an Annual General Meeting where an update is provided to the membership and where board seats due for re-election are elected. The Board was seeking approval for an AGM delay due to the Board’s year-long (2017/18) strategic evaluation of the DMCV Sharks program as soccer club in Southern California relative to peer programs. As a result of our analysis, we have determined that the current by-laws are no longer aligned and supportive of DMCV Sharks strategy and operating model. Specifically, the by-laws were in put in place at a time where the club was predominantly staffed by volunteers and the club’s focus centered around recreational soccer. As was shared in the Sharks Town Hall in September, the revenues derived from the competitive programs now represent greater than 75% of the club’s total revenue and our employee base inclusive of coaches has reached 39 people with 5 full time individuals who are tasked with managing and administering club operations. It was proposed to delay the AGM meeting to no later than March 28, 2019.
At the direction of the Club President, the Board was also requesting an extension of the term of current board roles due for re-election to align with the extension of the AGM to maintain consistency as the outcome of Board positions may change in the by-laws.
Those in attendance approved both proposed items.
